After our previous catch up at Doubleshot, it was my turn to choose where we were going to catch up next. I went to Instagram to find some inspiration on where we could go, after looking at several photos, I decided on Grease Monkey because of a photo on their fried chicken…
As Cousin A had to go to work after the catch up, so we decided to go meet there at 11am. But due to some reason Cousin A was running late, leaving Cousin K and me waiting in the sun (we were lucky to find some shade from a nearby tree). Cousin K and I decided to take a stroll down Lonsdale street, as we were both curious about the new Japanese place ‘Chaki Chaki‘ which opened recently. We ended up walking into Grease Monkey at 11:30, I happen to be the first people to enter the burger joint.
We were ready to order within minutes after sitting down as we did research prior to the catch up. Being at an American burger joint, ordering a milkshake is a must!! The flavours that were available was Salted Caramel or Vanilla Malt (both $6). Both Cousins ordered the salted caramel, while I went with the vanilla malt. The salted caramel milkshake was flavourful but not too overpowering, while the vanilla malt was simply a plain milkshake with a subtle malt flavour.

Cousin A couldn’t manage with the double serving of meat so she ordered a Greasy $15 while Cousin K and I both went with a Double Deluxe $17, this was because for $2 extra we could get double serving of meat. Inside the double deluxe is two beef patties, double cheese, bacon, GM(Grease Monkey) ketchup, onions, pickles, mustard and Greasy’s sauce (this is their secret sauce, kinda similar to the Big Mac sauce from McDonalds). The burgers are all served with a side of seasoned chips.

Apart from the burgers, we did order other ‘sides’ to accompany our burgers. First one being the Greasy Fried Chicken $22. This was the dish that caught my attention when I was browsing my Instagram feed. You can order this in 3 or 6 piece servings, one piece each wouldn’t be enough so we went with 6 pieces. Our reaction when we took our first bite was that they are really similar in appearance and taste as those you get from Kingsleys and KFC. I was kind of disappointed as the price we paid could had grabbed us a bucket full at KFC or Kingsleys.
The other side we order was from their specials board. Truffle Mac and Cheese bites $5, the other $5 specials they had were chicken wings and jalapeño cheese poppers. I was a bit sceptical as first because for $1 a piece, you wouldn’t expect much truffle to be present but I was wrong. The truffle hits you instantly after taking the first bite and guess what… I even found pieces of black truffle in my first piece of the Mac and cheese bite.
The two cousins both had to get desserts, they both ordered the Ice Cream Sandwich with Salted Caramel $7 because the weather was so hot. When they arrived, I embarrassing asked Cousin A and Cousin K ‘Is that a Monaco bar?’. The dessert did redeem itself with the super thick salted caramel, it was so thick that they did a quenelle with it. The flavour instantly reminded me of Wethers Original lollies.

If you happen to be in the city and looking for a place for a feed, try Grease Monkey, besides burgers they also do exciting breakfast items. In my opinion, instead of ordering the fried chicken, try grabbing something from their $5 specials board, especially the Mac and cheese bites. If milkshakes seem a bit too immature, they also have a full range of adult beverages.
